International Innovation Hub for the Wood Industry in Päijät-Häme

LAB Wood is an international innovation hub focusing on mechanical wood processing and industrial wood-based construction products. It is coordinated by LAB University of Applied Sciences and located in the Päijät-Häme region. The aim of LAB Wood is to build a strong ecosystem that brings together companies, industry associations, students, and higher education institutions operating in the sector.

We support the international growth of our partner companies by providing expertise and business-driven solutions throughout Finland. The core focus of our research and development activities is improving efficiency, automation, and digitalization across the production chains of wood products and timber construction.

LAB Wood serves companies in the wood products industry by acting as a contact point for degree-oriented and company-specific education, development and testing services, as well as LAB’s full range of services, including design, innovation, and startup services.

LAB Wood was launched in early 2025 with significant funding from the Marjatta and Eino Kolli Foundation, industry companies, the EU, and the Regional Council of Uusimaa.
