Build the infrastructure behind artificial intelligence and the digital world

The growing use of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital services is increasing the demand for professionals who understand both digital technologies and the infrastructure that supports them.

The AI and Digital Infrastructure Engineering programme prepares you to design, build and operate the infrastructure behind today's digital world. The studies give you a solid foundation in electrical engineering and information technology. You will also develop specialised expertise in data centre technologies, digital infrastructure, and critical systems that must operate reliably around the clock.

Sustainability, energy efficiency, security, and safety are key themes integrated throughout the programme. You will learn how different technologies, energy systems, network infrastructure, and data centre environments interact to support reliable and resilient digital services.

You will also have opportunities to participate in practical projects, laboratory work, and collaboration with industry partners.

Qualification

Bachelor of Engineering

The earned qualification is an undergraduate degree (a bachelor’s degree). After earning the degree, you can apply for work in private sector businesses as well as public sector organisations that require an applicable university degree.

Tuition fee

No tuition fees for EU/EEA students. EUR 11,000/academic year for students from outside the EU/EEA.

As a graduate of the AI and Digital Infrastructure Engineering programme, you can pursue a career in data centre operations, facilities engineering, automation, reliability engineering and energy management, as well as sustainability and compliance roles.

As demand for advanced digital infrastructure and data centres continues to grow worldwide, career opportunities are available in Finland and internationally.

Possible job titles

  • Digital Infrastructure Engineer
  • Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
  • Power Systems Engineer
  • Data Center Engineer
  • Infrastructure Operations Engineer
  • Technology Project Manager
  • AI Systems Specialist
  • Technical Consultant

The AI and Digital Infrastructure Engineering studies equip you with the skills to adapt to rapid technological change and approach new developments with curiosity.

What do the studies include?

During your studies, you will learn how the digital infrastructure behind AI, cloud services, and digital services operates. The programme equips you with specialised technical expertise and practical experience to prepare you for a career in one of the fastest-growing technology sectors.

First year: Technical foundation and introduction to digital infrastructure

The four-year programme begins by building a strong scientific and technical foundation in engineering. You will become familiar with engineering thinking, laboratory work, sustainability principles, and the role of digital infrastructure in society. The first year introduces the data centre industry and the mission-critical role of modern digital services in society.

Second and third years: Data centre technologies and operations

In the second and third years, you will focus on the technologies and infrastructure that keep data centres operational. You will learn how electrical power systems, energy technologies, and automation and monitoring systems are designed, operated, and maintained. The studies also cover reliability, industry standards, and regulations.

Fourth year: Advanced studies and practical experience

The final year integrates engineering, IT, AI, and cybersecurity. A 30 ECTS internship allows you to apply your skills in real working environments and gain valuable work experience before graduation. You will also complete a thesis project on a topic that relates to your interests and career goals.

Close collaboration with LUT University

The studies are offered in collaboration between the LAB University of Applied Sciences and LUT University, and they combine a strong theoretical foundation with hands-on, industry-oriented learning.

The programme provides eligibility for master's degree studies in electrical engineering and software engineering at LUT University and creates excellent opportunities for further academic and professional development.
