Unique learning experience

The degree programme in Product Development Engineering will be conducted using Open Engineering methods and Quantum Learning. The learning process supports engineering students in trying new ways of working instead of standardised tools and processes.

This is also a good option for Finnish students, and individual coaching may be provided in Finnish. 

Previously completed higher education studies in any field can be flexibly accredited as part of the degree. This is also a flexible way to restart your studies.

Qualification

Bachelor of Engineering

The earned qualification is an undergraduate degree (a bachelor’s degree). After earning the degree, you can apply for work in private sector businesses as well as public sector organisations that require an applicable university degree.

Tuition fee

No tuition fees for EU/EEA students. EUR 11,000/academic year for students from outside the EU/EEA.

The degree programme in Product Development Engineering offers a good start in developing new products and services with new technologies and innovations.

Studies after graduation

After earning a bachelor’s degree and having two years of professional work experience, you are eligible to apply to the university of applied sciences (UAS) master’s degree programmes. 

You are also eligible to apply to master’s degree programmes offered by universities.

This degree programme works in close co-operation with other degree programmes in all of LAB's study fields.

What do the studies include?

The learning process in this degree programme is unique: students will create and follow their individual learning path, and coaches help and support students to learn their own way. Self-learning is a very important area of the programme. In this degree programme, the student is able to authentically connect workplace projects to learning. 

Students can tailor their studies by selecting courses that align with their professional interests and goals. Flexibility means that the students may learn in the workplace without any f2f coaching on campus.

All information in this degree programme will be provided in English, and students will complete documents in English. Students may choose courses conducted in Finnish. The language of individual coaching will be decided between the student and the coach.

Degree structure

The degree programme in Product Development Engineering is 240 ECTS credits. 

The student follows their own learning path. There are no compulsory courses apart from some language courses, practical training, and a 15-ECTS credits thesis.

How to apply: Rolling Admission

In LAB Rolling Admission, applicants are selected to English-taught bachelor's programmes that begin in August 2026. The application period is 1 November 2025–30th of April 2026.
