Ilmastonmuutokseen sopeutuminen Päijät-Hämeessä
In Päijät-Häme, the main focus of climate work has been on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but with the regional climate change adaptation plan and the region's green transition program, the need for adaptation measures has been recognized. There is a need to specify measures, increase expertise, and implement practical solutions.
OBJECTIVES
The project aims at strengthening climate change adaptation in Päijät-Häme from the perspective of key industries and supporting Päijät-Häme municipalities in identifying and implementing adaptation measures.
The objectives are:
1) Supporting the region's industries in adapting to climate change risks and utilizing positive impacts, especially related to the food system.
2) Implementing the region's and municipalities' climate and adaptation plans, and promoting practical solutions.
3) Increasing knowledge and expertise, strengthening cooperation networks.
ACTIVITIES
The climate adaptation of industries is supported by risk analyses and mapping new business opportunities. Experts from LAB and Päijät-Häme Regional Council will prepare a regional risk analysis that specifies regional risks and the most vulnerable industries. Based on the analysis, risk cards will be prepared for main industries and a detailed risk card for the food system. Additionally, new business opportunities in the food sector will be mapped through an idea competition.
To promote the implementation of climate change adaptation plans, the project supports municipalities in identifying climate risks and specifying the current state of adaptation. Based on municipal risk assessments, the key adaptation measures in different sectors are defined and their implementation supported. Additionally, a monitoring tool for municipal adaptation measures will be further developed. Through peer learning events, municipal experts learn from each other about practical solutions and challenges. The activities also support regional climate adaptation work.
During the project, climate change adaptation will be integrated into regional platforms and networks, promoting internal communication. Cooperation within the region and participating in national and international networks supports finding new solutions. Webinars and seminars will be organized for companies and municipalities to present the project's results, and communication is done through multiple channels.
RESULTS
The climate work in the region and municipalities will be strengthened, especially regarding climate adaptation. The awareness and knowledge of municipalities and companies about climate change adaptation will increase, and cooperation between actors will grow. Practical adaptation measures will be identified and initiated.
Concrete results include a regional risk assessment from the perspective of adaptation, risk cards for main industries, a detailed review for the food system, an idea competition, and case descriptions of good practices from pioneering companies. For municipalities, the climate change adaptation tool will be actively used in at least six municipalities, the monitoring tool is updated and expertise has increased, for example through peer learning meetings.
Communication measures will include articles, webinars, a closing dissemination event, networks and a social media campaign to communicate the project results.
