When can I register for open UAS studies?
Registration for individual courses usually ends two weeks before the course starts. Registration for autumn courses opens in early August, for spring courses in early December, and for summer courses in mid-March.
Registration for path studies is open twice a year, in August and December.
See registration and terms of cancellation for more information.
Where can I register for the studies?
Path studies: Registration takes place in Studyinfo. You can find available path study places and direct links to Stydyinfo on our Path studies -page. The registration form will open at the beginning of the registration period.
Individual courses: Add one or more courses to your shopping cart in Sisu. You can register through the shopping cart. Instructions for registration can be found on the Open UAS courses -page.
Am I able to work and study in Open UAS path studies at the same time?
This depends on the form of the studies (full-time, part-time, online), the flexibility of your work hours, and most of all, your inner resources.
The path studies include first-year studies of a degree programme and they require commitment and time (one ECTS credit equals approximately 27 study hours), regardless of the form. Please read the path description carefully before registering.
I already know that I will not be able to attend the orientation sessions. Is attendance mandatory?
Some of the orientation materials and presentations will also be published as video recordings. However, participation in the orientation is highly recommended, as during the orientation days you will meet your tutor teachers, student tutors and student services staff. They will all help and guide you to get started smoothly with your studies. In addition, you will get to know your future classmates and the campus.
Read more about starting your studies in eLAB.
Which courses are available to path students? Can I select any UAS courses from both campuses?
Path students cannot freely choose their courses. In path studies, you are required to complete the first-year studies according to the curriculum of the degree programme in question. This means you will take the same courses as degree students and study alongside a degree group. Some courses can be completed either on campus or online. At the start of your studies, your tutor teacher will help you with your course selections.
Can I extend my study right if I have already completed one year in path studies?
If you are unable to complete your path studies within two semesters, please contact the Open UAS team in advance at avoinamk
lab [dot] fi (avoinamk[at]lab[dot]fi). Depending on the situation, your study right may be extended by one semester (up to a maximum of two), in which case you will be charged a new semester fee. An extension requires proof of sufficient progress in your studies.
Can I be sure that I'm accepted to a degree programme after completing the path studies?
A study place is reserved for all LAB path students who have completed the required path studies during the last 4 semesters.
Please note:
For the Health Care programmes also three compulsory courses need to be passed:
- Basics of anatomy and physiology, 5 ects
- Clinical Nursing Interventions, 5 ects
- Pharmacotherapy, 5 ects
For the Design and Fine Arts programmes also a portfolio needs to be passed.
To be eligible for the Open UAS separate application, Master’s-level path studies must be completed with a minimum grade average of 3.
Please note that if you are a student from a non-EU/EEA country, you will become liable to pay the tuition fee when accepted to a degree programme.
