RosKarelia – We recycle
The goal of the RosKarelia – We recycle project is to promote the vitality and sustainability of the South Karelia region by developing new solutions for material recycling and supporting companies in waste reduction and sorting enhancement. The project focuses particularly on SMEs and residential-commercial buildings, where the sorters are both rental residents and businesses operating in the ground floor. The aim is to improve sorting opportunities and skills, which increases sorting motivation and reduces waste management costs.
The project addresses the needs of regional SMEs and other organizations, as currently there is insufficient waste management guidance for companies and residential-commercial buildings. The project focuses on material recycling, recovery, and waste prevention, which are central to the circular economy. By enhancing source separation, materials that would otherwise be wasted are recovered and utilized. Especially the separate collection of biowaste is crucial, as it ensures regional security of supply through biogas and fertilizer production.
The project's output includes a sorting guide for companies and residential-commercial buildings, which is available to all transport companies and distributed throughout the South Karelia region. RosKarelia aims to promote waste prevention, recycling, and utilization in accordance with the Waste Act at the regional level.
Through the project, companies and organizations reduce waste generation and increase recycling rates, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly society. The project supports the goals of the South Karelian regional development program and and the innovation and skills in Finland 2021–2027 programme, which emphasise sustainable development and resource efficiency.
