Osallisuuskortteli – Participation Block, creating a working life based learning and a profession orientated model for health and social training

The Participation Block project is, in co-operation with working life, creating an employment orientated learning environment, which better supports those health and social students in LAB who are at risk of suspending or prolonging studies. The cause of this can be life circumstances, pressures from working life, or difficulty in getting to grips with the realities of student life.

The Participation Block project aims to

1) Develop health and social students’ preparations to enter working life and ease the transfer from student to employee status

2) Develop and pilot in co-operation with working life an employment-based model with a supporting study environment which encourages participation in studies and aids the advancement of those in need of extra learning support

3) The working model will be put into continued operation

There will be 50 – 70 participants in the study environment pilot scheme during the project. The project is undertaken co-operatively by LAB University of Applied Sciences, Lahden Diakonialaitos and Harjulan Setlementti ry.

Students become better prepared for working life, and there is an increase in profession-based student services including guidance and preparation services. The employment-based model allows for differing methods of showing expertise and therefor reduces the dropout rate while also reducing graduation time. Graduates skills serve the needs of working life better than ever.
