Multidisciplinary process expertise in the collaboration of public art and urban planning

In the project "Urban plannig and art - Multidisciplinary process expertise in the collarboration of public art and urban planning" the expertise needs of visual artists and community planners related to the production and commissioning of public art are identified. Based on these needs, multidisciplinary training is developed and piloted, bringing together artists and community planning entities to enhance their skills in integrating art into public construction.

Multidisciplinary training is piloted in the South Karelia and Päijät-Häme regions, and professionals in community planning, art, and design can participate. Examples include visual artists, designers, community planners, architects, and landscape architects.

The training sessions aim to increase and broaden the mutual understanding and expertise of community planners and visual artists in implementing a collaborative planning process. The training covers processes related to commissioning, designing, and implementing public art. Participants work in multidisciplinary teams on practical projects related to public art and community planning in the South Karelia and Päijät-Häme regions. Integrating art into public spaces is becoming a significant form of environmental and urban development, but there is a lack of multidisciplinary practical expertise and knowledge. Currently, the planning processes of artists and community planners often progress separately, without sufficient consideration of the needs and perspectives of different fields.

The project aims to promote proactive multidisciplinary expertise support and the formation of interdisciplinary networks, creative expertise, employment in creative fields, and professional mobility by providing training for professionals in the workforce. The training sessions organized in the project also involve students from LAB University of Applied Sciences. LAB University of Applied Sciences and experts in art, community planning, and practice-based innovation and expertise from Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) contribute their expertise and perspectives to the planning and implementation of the pilots.
