Puujalostamo - puuosaamisen keskittymä Päijät-Hämeessä

Päijät-Häme region is one of the biggest producers of wooden products and there’s a concentration of furniture industry in the area. Timber construction is a rising trend in Europe as well as Finland. The sector will need skilled workers who have an understanding of wood as a versatile material in construction and interior design and Päijät- Häme is in a good position to meet these needs, because there is already existing know-how and education on the subject.

The main object of Päijät-Häme Wood Center of Excellence project is to create new study modules, which are able to lift the wood design and wood technology know-how up to international level and launch LAB University of Applied Sciences as the educator of business oriented wood designers and wood engineers. A new education programme is constructed and piloted in the project. A roadmap of future know-how is made, European good practices are benchmarked, network of the various actors in the field is put together and wood sector mentoring is developed. Also the know-how of teachers and tutors is updated and performance testing regarding wooden materials and products is boosted.

As a result of the project a new Päijät-Häme Wood Center of Excellence education model is created, which aims at international level of competences and strengthens the role of Päijät-Häme as the center of wood design and wood technology know-how.
