Human well-being builds thriving communities
Human health and well-being are associated with a range of global problems that also concern Finland nationally. Mental health issues, access to health care, social inequality, and changes in the world of work impact many people directly. Pollution, climate change, an ageing population, a declining birth rate, and challenges related to safety create more extensive structural pressure. Solving these problems requires a human-centred, systemic approach.
Digitalisation and changes in the surrounding environment pose challenges related to well-being but also enable the development of sustainable, humane solutions. LAB partners with the health and well-being sector in developing technology-based solutions that promote human activity, functional capacity, and safety. We apply different technologies, artificial intelligence, and data in building functional service chains with our partners. We couple different sectors and develop solutions that promote a sense of community. However, taking advantage of these possibilities requires an understanding of their range of uses, the development of know-how, and the renewal of practices and processes.
We also study diversity in the world of work, such as the impact of age groups, genders, and cultural backgrounds on the work community, and help create solutions that promote workplace well-being, including practices that support brain health and coping, drawing from the health benefits of nature.
Human well-being calls for sharing know-how
Active collaboration between the private, public, and third sectors is one of the keys to solving many national and global problems involving well-being. We believe that healthy and thriving individuals build evolving communities. That, in turn, makes it easier to respond to the needs of a changing society. Therefore, we focus our activity on research and development related to the well-being of both individuals and communities.
Our research, development, and innovation (RDI) results in bold experiments and human-centred solutions that are based on a strong understanding of human activity, multidisciplinary research, close contacts with the world of work, and opportunities provided by digitalisation and technological development. We utilise research-based multidisciplinary knowledge in the development of expertise and innovations in collaboration with companies, the public sector, other societal actors, and research institutes.
LAB understands what the well-being of people and communities requires A thriving community requires understanding the multiple facets of well-being, utilising and applying research-based knowledge, and influencing human behaviour. The focus is on ensuring individual well-being and a safe and stable society. Key factors for societal well-being
