Towards zero-emission urban transport and logistics

Towards Zero-Emission Urban Transport and Logistics – Zero-Trail Project seeks solutions to reduce emissions from transport, with a particular focus on logistics. In Lahti, one-third of emissions originate from transport, and logistics accounts for 17% of the region’s total emissions. Reducing emissions from logistics requires changes in the logistics system and in the distribution of energy sources. The transition to cleaner energy sources demands available technology, investments in transport fleets and infrastructure – with public authorities also playing a key role in guiding the development.

The goal of the project is to promote the adoption of sustainable energy sources and transport solutions in urban logistics in close collaboration with the local business sector, other cities, and transport and logistics operators. As a concrete outcome, the project will produce a sustainable urban logistics plan, business models and a guide for developing charging infrastructure for electric transport, as well as information on policy and regulatory measures for fast and fair transition.

The project is implemented in close cooperation with the City of Lahti (coordinator) and Lahti Region Development LADEC ltd.. In addition, local logistics businesses, wider business community, and other projects promoting sustainable transport transitions, as well as citizens are engaged in the project work. When all stakeholders are involved, the transition to low-emission urban logistics can be implemented in a fair and efficient manner.

The Zero-Trail project, funded by EU's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme through NetZeroCities programme. The project promotes European cities’ emission reduction efforts and contributes to the mission of creating “100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030.”
