RiskSmart - Risk management, productivity and quality for social and health care companies with safety management

The project focuses on developing comprehensive safety management skills and its

components in micro and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the social and healthcare

sector.

By improving personal safety, occupational safety, and the management of safety risks,

it is possible to enhance well-being at work and increase the productivity and competitiveness of

the company. Entrepreneurs operating in the South Karelia region have highlighted needs such

as implementing self-monitoring plans, developing processes related to the company's and its employees' information security and protection, and strengthening the safety skills and culture of employees with varying working hours. The project addresses these needs while enabling co-development between the university of applied sciences and companies.

The pilot will take place in South Karelia.

The project will make companies' operations safer and more safety-conscious at all organizational levels. Companies will receive support in creating and utilizing self-monitoring programs and plans from a quality perspective and as part of safety management in both supervisory work and customer interfaces.

The novelty value of the project lies in its safety management theme and content, as well as their connection to self-monitoring, risk management, and quality. These themes can be developed considering the specific

characteristics of social and healthcare SMEs, such as the operating environment of home-

delivered services, the impact of different types of employment relationships on organizational

commitment, and the safety skills needs of non-Finnish-speaking staff.

The project will produce a guide describing the development of safety management and safety culture in micro and small to medium-sized enterprises in the social and healthcare sector.

The project is implemented by LAB University of Applied Sciences.
