Energy Storages and Heat Pumps in the Energy System in Futures

The mission of the LAB University of Applied Sciences is to identify SME technology companies, energy business operators and energy users operating in the South Karelia region, whose business opportunities are affected by new energy storage solutions. In the project, LAB and LUT will produce the Road Map of South Karelia Energy Storage, which describes the key technologies, their development needs, and opportunities, both in terms of regional carbon-neutral energy production and export opportunities of local technology suppliers.

Energy storage technologies include high-temperature heat storage materials and heat pumps. The project is also looking for pilot sites to test new energy storage and heat pump technologies in practice. In addition to piloting, energy system modeling examines carbon-free Lappeenranta and the role of energy storage in its implementation.

The project is carried out in partnership with local technology companies, energy companies, energy-intensive industries and real estate companies.
