LAB continues as a partner in the Erasmus Mundus Programme MUrCS+

The MUrCS+ consortium is coordinated by Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland and includes the University of Huelva in Spain. This autumn, 21 students will graduate from the programme, forming the seventh graduating cohort.

The Master’s programme focuses on the impacts of climate change on cities, the urban heat island effect and sustainable urban development. LAB’s role in the programme emphasizes work-based learning, and students have carried out projects in collaboration with, amongst others, the City of Lahti, the Päijät-Häme Regional Council and companies in the sector.

In the new funding period, the programme’s implementation will also include LAB’s Master’s degree programme in Circular Economy Solutions.

– Securing Erasmus Mundus funding for a third consecutive period demonstrates the programme’s high international quality and LAB’s esteemed position in European higher education cooperation. International joint degree programmes strengthen expertise, networks and the impact of education for both the university and the region, says Janne Roslöf, Head of the Faculty of Technology.

According to Senior Lecturer Susanna Vanhamäki, the new funding period will also create a stronger link than before between the MUrCS+ programme and the Circular Economy Solutions course.

‘A key focus of both degree programmes is promoting a sustainability transition in society and integrating sustainable solutions – such as those based on the circular economy – into the built environment,’ says Vanhamäki.

LAB has long been the only Finnish university of applied sciences involved in the Erasmus Mundus programme. In the new funding period, Haaga-Helia will also be participating through its own Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s consortium.
