Sustainable material solutions research group tackles the global sustainability challenge by promoting circular-economy based new business creation by applying novel material technologies, along with AI and other digital solutions and data-driven business models.

Our multidisciplinary research group bridges the gap between state-of-the-art research and industrial needs In 2030, we are at the forefront of optimizing renewable resources into sustainable products and are a trusted partner for solving complex scientific and technological challenges across national and international networks.

Anna Keskisaari

Researcher D.Sc. (tech) with a background in mechanical engineering/wood technology/composites. Expertise in plastics and textiles recycling and material reuse, as well as the use of recycled materials in composites. Current research focuses on advancing the circular economy for plastics and development of bioplastics.

Kirsti Cura

Chief Specialist (PhD in polymer chemistry). Her expertise is in material identification, recycling and reuse technologies of textiles and plastics, and tracking and traceability of value chains. She has a large national and international network of circular textiles.

Mourad Kharbach

Chief Specialist in Data Science and Machine Learning with dual PhDs in Chemometrics & Data Science Approaches and Pharmaceutical Sciences/Analytical Chemistry. He specializes in AI/ML, multivariate analysis, spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, process control, process optimization, MSPC, statistics, and quality control.

Malahat Ghoreishi

D.Sc. in Economics and Business Administration. Research focuses on digitalization and circular economy, data-driven value chain in circular economy, data-driven and digitally enabled business models in circular economy. Expertise also includes sustainability reporting based on GRI standards and ESG reporting regulations.

Chief specialist, D.Sc.(tech) in mechanical engineering/biocomposites. His expertise is related to biocomposites, biopolymers, plastics recycling, material development and sustainability. Senior Lecturer (Technology Industry), MSc (Mathematics), DSc (Industrial Engineering and Management). She has over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, and project work. She coordinates the Technological Transformation Leadership master's program and teaches courses related to digital solutions and digital transformation. Her research focuses on performance management and the role of digital solutions in promoting responsible business and sustainable material solutions.
