The Suomivilla project aims to strengthen the Finnish wool value chain by finding new and sustainable ways to utilise Finnish wool as well as side streams and waste generated in wool production and processing. The project brings together companies, RDI organisations and other stakeholders to develop new material applications, products, services and business opportunities based on real market and customer needs.

Through co-creation, practical experiments and demonstrations, the project explores the potential of wool-based materials in applications such as recycled fibres, knitted materials and furniture boards. Alongside technical and material development, the project examines the commercial potential and scalability of new solutions, helping companies identify opportunities for further development and business.

LAB University of Applied Sciences contributes expertise in design, materials, customer-oriented development and business innovation. LAB works closely with companies to develop and test new concepts, assess the potential of wool side streams and provide practical knowledge to support companies’ product and business development. International cooperation and benchmarking, particularly within the Baltic region, bring additional expertise, perspectives and networks to the project.

In the longer term, Suomivilla aims to increase the value and more efficient use of Finnish wool, reduce material waste and strengthen circular economy practices. By combining practical experimentation, business development and collaboration across the value chain, the project creates a foundation for new products, partnerships and sustainable business that can continue beyond the project period.
