UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
We promote all 17 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through our education, RDI activities, stakeholder cooperation and everyday operations on our campuses, our impact focuses on the following SDGs in particular.
SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
We educate professionals in the fields of health, social services and well-being, who advance equality, safety and sustainable development through their work. Together with our partners, we develop solutions that strengthen people's well-being, health, work ability, functional capacity and participation. We promote the physical and mental well-being of our students and staff and foster an inclusive and equitable community supported by well-being technologies.
SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
We support the sustainable growth, renewal and internationalisation of businesses through research, development and innovation activities and close collaboration with business and industry. Employment is promoted through education closely aligned with the needs of working life, lifelong learning and entrepreneurship. We also develop a responsible, inclusive and thriving work and study community for everyone.
SDG 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation
In close cooperation with businesses, we develop new products, services and business solutions by applying expertise in the circular economy, technology and design. We research, test and pilot new materials while supporting the commercialisation of innovations and sustainable industrial transformation. We provide our students, staff and partners with modern learning, research and development environments where innovations start.
SDG 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
We design and develop safe, accessible and sustainable services, products and living environments that meet the needs of people and communities through user-centred design and research-based knowledge. We promote the preservation of cultural and natural heritage and develop solutions that support sustainable, inclusive and vibrant communities. We continuously improve the sustainability, accessibility and sense of community on our campuses while promoting sustainable mobility, regional vitality and healthy living environments.
SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
We promote sustainable consumption and production through expertise in the circular economy, material efficiency and product design, while helping businesses make use of recycled materials and industrial side streams. In our own operations, we reduce the consumption of materials and energy, improve recycling practices and integrate sustainability into procurement and everyday campus activities.
SDG 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
We advance the transition to a low-carbon society by developing solutions for climate change mitigation, the sustainable use of natural resources and the circular economy. We also strengthen the capabilities of students and working life partners to address environmental challenges. In line with our Climate Action Plan, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions, monitor our carbon footprint annually and aim to achieve net zero by 2050.
SDG 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development
Through our RDI activities, students, businesses, public sector organisations and research institutions work together to develop solutions for shared challenges. By bringing together diverse expertise, we create innovations, strengthen competencies and support sustainable growth. Solutions developed on our campuses are shared nationally and internationally through research partnerships and stakeholder networks. We actively participate in national and international initiatives that promote sustainable development.
