In LAB Separate Application, applicants are selected to bachelor's programmes that begin in January 2026. In this Separate Application round you can apply regardless of whether you have non-Finnish or Finnish educational background. You are eligible to apply if you have completed or will complete your upper secondary education by 31 August 2025.

How to apply for LAB Separate Application? 

The application period: 17 - 31 July 2025

Apply via StudyInfo: The application form opens on 17 July 2025 at 8 AM (UTC +3). Applicants who are not citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland are required to pay an application fee in order to apply to higher education studies.

Applicants are selected to bachelor's programmes that begin in January 2026. After the results are published, the study place must be accepted, and possible tuition fee must be paid in three weeks' time to receive the 20% Early Bird discount.

  • Applicants can apply to one programme in the LAB Separate Application.
  • Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria are set into the order of selection based on pre-defined criteria.
  • In LAB Separate Application, applicants can supplement their attachments up to 7 days after the end of the application period. Attachments must be uploaded to the application by 7 August 2025 at 3 PM (UTC+3).
  • If the degree has been completed in a language other than English, Finnish or Swedish, the documents must be officially translated into one of those languages.
  • The selection of students is based on the information provided in the application form and attachments. Late or incomplete applications will not be processed during the student selection.
  • The decision on the selection will be notified to the applicants by 9 September 2025 at the latest.

 

Eligibility criteria

All applicants must fulfill the general eligibility requirements for higher education. You are eligible to apply if you have completed (or by 31 August 2025 will complete) your general or vocational upper secondary education, e.g., a high school diploma. The qualification must give eligibility to higher education studies in the country where the degree has been completed.

The admission is based on upper secondary degree certificates. University/higher-level certificates are not taken into consideration in the academic evaluation. 

 

Selection Groups of Applicants

Group 1
  • Applicants with an upper secondary education completed outside of EU/EEA area (general or vocational) e.g., a high school diploma, and
  • language test result.
  • Applicants are ranked based on their arithmetic average of an upper secondary degree diploma and language certificate scores. 
Group 2
  • International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate or A-levels taught in English OR Reifeprüfung (RP) or Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) completed in Finland.
  • Applicants are ranked based on their arithmetic average of an upper secondary degree diploma.
Group 3
  • Applicants with an upper secondary education completed in EU/EEA area (general or vocational) e.g., a high school diploma, RP & DIA and
  • language test result.
  • Applicants are ranked based on their arithmetic average of an upper secondary degree diploma and language certificate scores. 
Group 4
  • Applicants with an upper secondary education completed outside Finland. Instead of a language proficiency test, applicants have completed their upper secondary degree or at least Bachelor/Master degree in English at an institution located in the following countries: an EU or EEA country, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
  • Applicants are ranked based on their arithmetic average of an upper secondary degree diploma.
Group 5
  • Applicants with secondary-level diploma granting higher-education eligibility, and
  • a valid SAT score.
  • In Finland, the following qualifications alone produce eligibility only if accompanied by an SAT result: specialist vocational qualification, post-secondary vocational/higher vocational diploma (opistoaste), or older vocational qualification under the previous system (minimum 80 ECTS).
  • Applicants are placed in an order of selection based on their SAT results.
Group 6
  • Finnish matriculation examination or Finnish vocational upper-secondary qualification.
  • Applicants are ranked based on their matriculation exam grades or grades for the three common modules of the vocational qualification, weighted per national UAS scoring models.

 

Required documents

After filling in your application form, you need to upload all the required documents to your online application.

  • Degree Certificate of your upper secondary education + an official translation in English (if applicable)
  • Transcript of Records + an official translation in English (if applicable)
  • Verification for grading scale (if not included in the transcript of records)
  • Language Test Certificate (when required)
  • Copy of Your Passport (ID page)
  • Copy of Your Finnish Residence Permit Card (if applicable)

 

Language requirements

The language of instruction is English. There are certain language requirements to be met. Applicant must prove their English skills by one of the following:
 

Recognized language tests and specific requirements

All following language tests are accepted by LAB University of Applied Sciences. These language test results must meet the minimum score and validity requirements mentioned below. 

If the results need to be verified via the test organiser’s webpage, remember to verify the results before applying. If we cannot verify your language test results online, the results cannot be used as proof of your English language skills.

English-medium qualifications

A degree formally equivalent to a Finnish bachelor's or master's, taught in English and conferred by university in the EU/EEA or in Australia, South Africa, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, or the United States. The official document must state that English was the language of instructions; if the language is not specified or multiple languages are listed, at least half of the credits must have been completed in English.

 

Country-specific secondary-level diplomas

Completed (or in progress) a diploma formally equivalent to the Finnish matriculation exam in one of these countries, meeting the following minimum English grades:

  • Bulgaria: Gimnazii - Diploma za Zavurcheno Sredno Obrazovanie, English grade at least 5.5/6
  • Estonia: Gümnaasiumi Lõputunnistus, B2 or C1 English grade at least 3.5/5
  • Hungary: Gimnáziumi Érettségi Bizonyítvány, English grade at least 4/5
  • Latvia: Atestāts par Vispārējo Vidējo Izglītību, English grade at least 8/10
  • Lithuania: Brandos Atestatas, English grade at least 8/10
  • Poland: Świadectwo Dojrzalości in progress English grade at least 4.5/5.5 or completed English (matura) 70%
  • Romania: Diploma de Bacalaureat, English grade at least 8/10
  • Slovakia: Vysvedčenie o Maturitnej skúške, English grade at least 2/5

 

Selection and evaluation process

Group 1 and 3

Applicants must meet the minimum arithmetic average requirement and language proficiency result criteria of the program to be eligible, if applicable.

The evaluation is conducted in two stages.

  • First, the applicant's arithmetic average is evaluated from 0 to 100, and then scored accordingly. Applicants must have a minimum of 65% of the maximum score.
  • In the second phase, the language proficiency results are scored.
Group 2 and 4

Applicants must meet the minimum arithmetic average requirement based on which they will be ranked. For Group 2, the minimum language requirement must also be met.

Group 5

Applicants with an upper secondary level of education can apply to Bachelor programs with the SAT Test (Suite of Assessments Test).

When applying with SAT, there are no additional requirements for providing the English proficiency. Only tests taken after 1 January 2023 are accepted.

Group 6

Applicants are ranked based on their matriculation exam grades or grades for the three common modules of the vocational qualification, weighted per national UAS scoring models.

Applicants who have completed a vocational qualification must have an average of at least 60 points.
 

Applying with an unfinished degree

Applicants applying with an unfinished degree must provide individual certificates for each school year or semester of the degree of upper secondary school up until the application date. The applicant will be assessed based on the grades in these certificates.

A possible admission of an applicant with an unfinished degree is a conditional one.

An admitted student must

  • Graduate by 31 August 2025.
  • Email scans of the original Degree Certificate and Transcript of Records to LAB Admission Services at admissionsatlab [dot] fi by 31 August 2025 at 3 PM (UTC+3).
  • Official translations, when required, must reach LAB Admission Services by email by 6 September 2025 at 3 PM (UTC +3).

Applicants who fail to graduate and submit the required documents as requested forfeit their right to study.

 

Note that you can only submit one (1) application form. If you submit several application forms, only the newest one will be taken into consideration and all others (i.e., first submitted ones) will be deleted. Higher education institutions will not inform applicants about deleted applications.

Do I have to pay tuition fees?
