In the first year, you will develop a good foundation in different areas of business information technology and start building your professional profile by doing core competence studies. From the second year onwards, you have the opportunity to start personalizing your study path by doing complementary competence studies. We offer you a choice of modules in Web application production, Software procurement and deployment, Real-Life IT Projects and Digitalization in Businesses.
We also offer modules combining expertise from various different fields. You can also complete part of your studies in multidisciplinary development projects and learning environments (e.g. in student cooperatives). Towards the end of the programme, you will gain practical experience by working in the organisation of your choice.
The contents of the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology are designed in cooperation with businesses and with an eye on future competence needs. The programme prepares students for a range of roles involving digital technologies. All degree programmes at our UAS include complementary competence studies that allows you to broaden and personalise your expertise. You can choose complementry studies from your own field of study, or from other fields of study.
Non-EU/EEA students are subject to tuition fees. The annual tuition fee for students in Bachelor´s degree programmes is € 8 000 per year.
In the first year, no one will be granted a scholarship by LAB University of Applied Sciences. The scholarship is based on a 50% reduction in the fee for the second year, if the student manage to complete a minimum of 60ECTS during the first year. In addition, a 50% reduction applies to all the following years, if the student has completed a minimum of 60 ECTS during the previous academic year. This policy will be applied until the end of the study time.
The programme is divided into common core competences and complementary competences. Core competence studies equip you for a range of professional roles. Complementary competence studies allows you to extend your skills and specialize in an area of your interest. Complementary competences may consist of studies of your own field, multidisciplinary route studies or other skills supporting professional growth. Your personal tutor teacher will support and assist you throughout yourstudies.

The earned qualification is an undergraduate degree (a bachelor’s degree). After earning the degree, you can apply for work in private sector businesses as well as public sector organisations that require an applicable university degree.
The programme is taught in English. In addition, we offer you opportunities to study foreign languages. If your mother tongue is other than Finnish, you have a perfect chance to study Finnish in different ways with us.
A bachelor’s degree includes a 15 ECTS thesis. This can be either a research-based project or a so-called functional thesis project.The aim of the thesis project is to broaden and deepen your professional expertise and provide you with expertise needed to operate in development tasks in your field. The thesis project improves your information retrieval and problem-solving skills.
The thesis can be conducted as a project commissioned by an external organization or as part of a development project. The thesis project can be carried out individually, in pairs or in a group, including a written report. At its best, the thesis project can serve as a pathway to your career.
