Scientific and Applied Research Abstracts

Call for abstracts on scientific and applied research opens soon and ends on March 1, 2026. 

We welcome research-based and applied research presentations that contribute new knowledge, insights, and evidence to the conference themes. Researchers from academia, applied research institutes, and development organizations are invited to share findings that advance understanding of smart cities and regions, climate-smart and circular economy, well-being, and smart value creation. The goal is to foster dialogue between research and practice, highlight innovative approaches, and support collaboration across sectors.

Scientific and applied research abstracts are submitted under the conference themes.

Instructions

Please submit your abstract online using the ConfTool abstract submission form. You will be asked to create a user account at ConfTool if you don't already have one. With an account you can submit contributions, access your submitted works, and see the results of the reviewing process.

Abstract must be submitted and presented in English.

The maximum length of the abstract is 250 words. We are also asking you to provide a summary of the abstract (50 words) and 3-5 keywords.

Please indicate in the submission form whether you wish to present your abstract as oral or poster presentation. In the submission form you also choose the subtheme under which your presentation fits best.

All presenting authors are expected to register for the event and pay the registration fee.

Full Papers

Authors of the accepted abstracts have the possibility to extend their abstract into a full paper. When submitting the abstract, authors should indicate in the submission form whether they plan to write a full article or not. 

Full papers will go through a double-blind peer review evaluation process. Accepted papers will be compiled into a conference proceedings, which will be published online at the end of 2026. The proceedings will appear in The Publication Series of LAB University of Applied Sciences.

The proceedings of the previous conference are available at Smart Cities in Smart Regions Conference Proceedings 2024.

Researchers reporting their publications within the framework of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture data collection may wish to note that the conference proceedings fall under the publication type A.

Full Paper Submission and Review Process

  • May 24, 2026: Deadline for full paper submission
  • July 1, 2026: Notification of acceptance, request for revision, or rejection
  • September 15, 2026: Submission of final, revised paper
  • September 30, 2026: Notification of final acceptance or rejection
  • November/December 2026: Publication of the conference proceedings
