Open University of Applied Sciences studies
LAB University of Applied Sciences offers Open University of Applied Sciences (Open UAS) studies free of charge until July 31, 2026, to persons who the Finnish Immigration Service has granted temporary protection.

How to enroll free of charge?
After choosing the courses and adding them to your shopping cart, you must identify yourself in the enrollment service using Suomi.fi e-Identification with either Finnish banking codes, a mobile certificate, hightrust.id application, or a certificate card. If you have none of the above, please contact avoinamklab [dot] fi (avoinamk[at]lab[dot]fi)
In the registration form, choose your enrollment type and attach a copy of the decision of your granted temporary protection by the Finnish Immigration Service. After we have checked your right to study free of charge, you will get the instructions on how to get started.
There are a limited amount of places available for each course. The places are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

The study right to complete non-degree studies
LAB University of Applied Sciences can grant the study right to complete non-degree studies to persons who have been granted temporary protection by the Finnish Immigration Service while their degree studies have been suspended at the Ukrainian higher education institution due to war.
The right of completion may be granted for certain courses or study modules for a limited period of time.
Attach a copy of the decision of the granted temporary protection by the Finnish Immigration Service to the application form.
If you have access to your degree certificate and/or transcript of records (or any other relevant study documents) please, attach a copy/copies of them to the form.

This study right does not give you the right to complete a degree at LAB University of Applied Sciences.
The application period is ongoing until the end of 2025. No fees will be charged for non-degree studies.
A maximum of 60 students can be granted the right to complete non-degree studies. The applications are processed in the order in which they are received.
Study rights will be granted based on applicants’ prior academic performance and the compatibility of their earlier studies with those offered by LAB University of Applied Sciences. Applicants are expected to be fluent in English.
The applications will not be processed during summer break in July.

Degree studies
The right to complete a degree can be applied for via our admission procedure.
Those who have fled Ukraine and have received temporary protection in Finland and a place to study at a LAB degree programme will receive a 100 percent tuition fee waiver for tuition fees in the academic year 2024–2025 and 2025-2026 on humanitarian grounds. The waiver applies to Bachelor's and Master's programmes at LAB.
