Compact Ultra-High Speed Turbo Compressor Motor

THE NEED:

Industry demand for ultra-high-speed motors (over 75,000 rpm) is rapidly growing, driven by the need for compact design, higher power density, fuel savings, reduced emissions, and improved efficiency. These demands align with the EU’s climate neutrality goals, targeting a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a significant boost in renewable energy and efficiency by 2030.

Yet, the European market still lacks motors that can reliably operate above 75,000 rpm with optimized bearing systems, advanced rotor materials, and designs that avoid rare-earth elements—materials whose extraction harms ecosystems.

OUR SOLUTION:

At LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences, we are developing CUSTOM – Compact Ultra-High Speed Turbo Compressor Motor:

- A Proof-of-Concept (PoC) for an innovative motor exceeding 100,000 rpm and 10 kW output.

- Designed with exceptional power density, reduced size and weight, and improved efficiency.

- Built without rare-earth materials, ensuring environmental responsibility.
