You will study the principles of natural and physical sciences, environmental technology, circular economy, sustainable development and their interaction with climate change and biological and technological cycles.

The studies will also include topics such as resource and material efficiency, digital tools, quality and project management, built environment, product design, and responsible business from the perspective of sustainable solutions and circular economy.

You will study and learn individually and collaboratively through lectures, laboratory work, exercises, work-life projects, company visits, teamwork, and by utilizing digital tools and software in many different ways. Koulutuksen sisältö

At the beginning of your studies, you will become familiar with the principles of natural and physical sciences, environmental technology, circular economy, and sustainable development, as well as their interaction with climate change and biological and technological cycles. These form the foundation for deepening your competence during your further studies.

The professional studies include topics such as resource and material efficiency, digital tools, quality and project management, built environment, product design, and responsible business from the perspective of sustainable solutions and circular economy.

Opportunities to deepen your knowledge

During your studies, you will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in selected topics during your internship (30 ECTS credits are mandatory) and while working on your final thesis, as well as in various applied development projects and possible online studies.

One of the main learning outcomes is the development of entrepreneurial and teamwork skills. This will enhance your ability to solve business and development challenges, advancing your career opportunities and working life. Our renewed circular economy and material laboratories, along with projects done in close cooperation with the working life, also allow you to test ideas in practice.

Build your studies to fit your life and career plans

We encourage you to complete your studies using various learning methods, as our curriculum structure is flexible. You will study and learn individually and collaboratively through lectures, laboratory work, exercises, work-life projects, company visits, teamwork, and by utilizing digital tools and software in many different ways.

Additionally, our various intensive weeks, such as Summer and Winter Schools, as well as other degree programme courses, are available to you. You can also take advantage of the online courses we offer extensively through our networks and partners.

The Sustainable Solutions Engineering degree programme is built upon strong knowledge and the need to address the major future challenges of our time, such as climate change and sustainability crises. Studying at LAB University of Applied Sciences is very flexible but challenging.

Due to the structure of our curriculum and pedagogical methods, we can quickly adapt to different situations and needs.

Our new campus and circular economy laboratories also offer you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in practice. We have excellent international and national networks with other universities and the working life, which will promote your career development in many ways.

Every student has the opportunity to participate in student exchange at one of our partner universities.

Tuition fees

Non-EU/EEA students are subject to tuition fees. The annual tuition fee for students in bachelor's degree programmes is € 8 000 per year. Applying for the 50 % scholarship is possible after the first academic year. To be able to use the given option, you must be able to study full-time during the first academic year – meaning that you must complete a minimum of 60 ECTS credits of studies that are included in your personal study plan.

The earned qualification is an undergraduate degree (a bachelor’s degree). After earning the degree, you can apply for work in private sector businesses as well as public sector organisations that require an applicable university degree.

The programme is taught in English. In addition, we offer you an excellent opportunity to study foreign languages extensively. If your mother tongue is other than Finnish, you have a perfect chance to study Finnish in different ways with us.

Opinnäytetyö

The bachelor’s degree programme includes a 15-ECTS thesis. This can either be a research-based project or a so-called functional thesis project. The thesis project aims to broaden and deepen your professional expertise and knowledge and provide you with the expertise needed to operate in development tasks in your field. The thesis project improves your information retrieval and problem-solving skills.

The thesis can be conducted as a project commissioned by an external organisation or as part of a development project. The thesis project can be carried out individually, in pairs or in a group, including a written report. At its best, the thesis project can serve as a pathway to your future career.
