Our orientation continues as follows:
Before your first day at LAB
The employer receives an up-to-date tax rate directly from the tax authority. The tax card does not need to be delivered separately, unless you have a tax card of a different type of income e.g.a tax-at-source card. Reward recipients, part-time teachers and hourly employees submit a tax card either with the personal data form or immediately at the start of the employment relationship through Mepco.
Before your first day at LAB, you have submitted your degree certificate as attachment to the personal information form. You will submit your work certificates at the start of your employment through the HR system Mepco. If you were unable to attach your degree certificate to the personal information form, please send them to the following address: LAB [dot] HRlut [dot] fi (LAB[dot]HR[at]lut[dot]fi)
The payroll for LAB's staff is handled by Certia Oy. LAB applies the General collective agreement for the private teaching sector of the Finnish Education Employers (FEE).
You will sign the employment contract in the electronic signature service (SarakeSign), to which you will receive a link to your email. Remember to save or print the employment contract. The document remains in the SarakeSign service for 30 days.
Are you coming to work at LAB as a hourly-paid teacher? See here for a short guide (in Finnish) to the tasks that belong to a hourly-paid teacher in a course implementation.
For further information, see the checklist for a new international employee of LAB.
First days at LAB
Do you arrive on campus by car or by public transport? See campus maps for Lahti and Lappeenranta and instructions on arrival and parking.
Your supervisor or a named colleague will meet you on your first day of work.
Before you start, your supervisor will arrange the tools you need. You will get a computer and a phone as soon as you start working at LAB. Activate your user account through online banking authentication at https://id.lut.fi/.
At the Lahti M19 campus, the access control key (the ID card) is used for multifunctional devices as well as storage compartments on the Mukkula campus. The ID card is ordered for you after the employment contract is signed. Lobby Services will inform you when the ID card is ready for pick up.
At the Lappeenranta campus, you will automatically get the access rights to the key. The access key can be picked up from the porters’ office.
On campus, you can have lunch and a coffee break in the campus restaurants. See the services offered by campus restaurants and check out the lunch menus.
LAB-level orientation meetings
HR Services provides basic information about LAB and the practices of personnel matters in the Tervetuloa taloon event (in Finnish), which complements unit/team level orientation. We organize orientation events a few times per semester. In addition, HR Services organizes shorter pop-up style orientations focused on personnel matters practices. We inform about the events, among other things, in LAB's intranet event announcements.
Orientation courses on Moodle
Your orientation also includes three online courses in Moodle, which is a virtual learning environment. You can start the trainings in Moodle after you have activated your organisation's user account (LUT account) and have logged in to the trainings independently. Links to the trainings and more information on how to log in and complete the trainings can be found in the checklist for a new international employee of LAB. The orientation courses are
- Information security training for staff
- Equality training
- Introduction to Sustainable Development in LUT Universities.
Getting to know your work – orientation in the unit and in the team
Your supervisor, or a named person, will be responsible for orientation to your tasks. In addition to briefing you on your tasks, you will go through your work responsibilities and objectives together, and have follow-up orientation discussions.
Feedback and development ideas are welcome!
You can give us feedback and ideas for developing this pre-orientation via this short questionnaire – thank you!
