MarkkulaMr Markku Markkula is the President of the EU Committee of the Regions (CoR) with influential European roles and responsibilities. He works within Aalto University as the Advisor to Aalto Presidents. His previous work experience includes being the Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute Dipoli and the Secretary General of the International Association for Continuing Engineering Education IACEE. He is a former member of the Finnish Parliament (1995-2003). As an MP his international role included the Presidency of EPTA Council, European Parliamentary Technology Assessment Network.

doug crawford-brownProfessor Doug Crawford-Brown retired recently as Director of the University of Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research. He is Emeritus Professor in Environmental Sciences and Policy at the University of North Carolina in the US. He has advised governments and businesses on climate change, sustainability and environmental protection in the US, UK, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Thailand, Abu Dhabi, India, Taiwan, Japan, China, Mexico and France.

 

Bruce OreckMr Bruce Oreck served as the United States Ambassador to Finland from 2009 until 2015.During that time, he also served as the Chairman of the State Department’s League of Green Embassies and in that capacity achieved the first LEED® Platinum embassy building anywhere in the world. Currently Ambassador Oreck is an Executive in Residence at Aalto University in Helsinki focusing on business and entrepreneurship. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of USGBC, the largest and most influential high performance building and urban redesign organization in the world.

Alan BarrellProfessor Alan Barrell DBA., FRSA is Entrepreneur in Residence at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He has spent some 30 years in senior executive positions in technology-based industries and has become one of Cambridge’s most articulate promoters of entrepreneurship around the world. He has received a large number of honorary positions and is a lecturer in high demand at universities all over the world. Alan has been in invited to Lahti University of Applied Science as the first Honorary Research Fellow of the University.

smart16Pertti Miettunen is President & CEO of Green Campus Innovations Ltd., a new business development and start-up venture capital arm of cleantech-focused Lappeenranta University of Technology. He is also Chairman of the Board of Nordic Innovation Accelerator Ltd., a globally operating business accelerator network and organiser of the biggest cleantech investor event in the Northern Europe, the Cleantech Venture Day. Pertti has over 30 years of industrial, private equity and venture capital experience. He has recently held managing positions in investment banks in both London and Helsinki, specializing in cross-border renewable energy and biofuels project finance as well as cross-border M&A in Europe, USA and South East Asia.

smart16D.Sc. (Tech.), MBA Sari Siitonen works as a director in the Confederation of Finnish industries (EK). In her current position she is responsible for sustainable business including cleantech, energy, climate, environment and logistics related issues. Her previous experience includes work as a vice president of sustainability and innovation in the Finnish gas company Gasum, vice president responsible for carbon markets in the consulting company Pöyry and as a researcher at Aalto University. She has more than 20 years of experience in the energy field.

smart16Maarit Vuorela is specialized in smart and liveable city development cases and co-creation with stakeholders and end-users. Co-creation including private companies, public and third sector as well as citizens. Maarit has also experience of creating developmental visions and strategic master plans for regions and areas to reach the goals set for future cities. Maarit has also managed two large finnish governmental programs for the the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation (Tekes) and has excellent skills for program management and network coordination. Maarit has also acted as program manager for large environmental development projects and evaluations and has had a role also in  Sitras process on Smart&Clean metropolitan area in Finland.
As city developer Maarit has also evaluated city development projects as well as programs for the large cities in Finland. Maarit has also experience of implementing city strategies by training the leaders and directors and implementing strategic leadership tools into everyday work with the city customers.

smart16Martin Garratt became Chief Executive of Cambridge Cleantech in 2011 and is responsible for the ambitious plans to further develop Cambridge as a leading cleantech centre in Europe and in so doing, helping to promote the next wave of the Cambridge hi-tech cluster.
Martin supports Cambridge Cleantech members by encouraging supply chain opportunities for companies in the sector, enabling shared experience of innovative growth businesses and providing collective services such as access to finance, government regulatory updates and links to international partners. 
Martin was previously the Regional Environmental Manager for IBM in the greater South East, including Cambridge. Martin has also undertaken governmental liaison roles whilst working for Boots the Chemists and was one of the UK’s first City Centre Managers in Nottingham.

smart16Olli Alho works as Urban Development Director in the City of Lahti (from 1.5.2015). He is responsible for Technical and Environmental Services, including city planning, land use, municipal engineering and environmental protection. Previously he worked as Ministerial Adviser in the Ministry of Employment and the Economy (2008 - 2016). He has over 15 years of experience on national urban policy, including co-operation between the state and major cities in Finland.

smart16Lene Foss (PhD) is Professor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship  at School of Business and Economics, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Her research concentrates on gender in innovation and entrepreneurship, university entrepreneurship/academic entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial education. Foss is associate editor  of Journal of Small Business management and editorial consultant and editorial board member  of International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship. She has been a visiting fellow at Department of Sociology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, UK. Foss is associate editor  of Journal of Small Business Management and editorial consultant and editorial board member  of International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship.

smart16Silja Kostia (PhD), is a Dean of Faculty of Technology, Lahti University of Applied Sciences. In current position as a director of engineering education at Lahti UAS she has been since 2013. Before that she worked as a principal lecturer at degree programme of environmental technology (Lahti UAS) and as a researcher and teacher at University of Helsinki. She has been one of the key persons in capacity development of Lahti UAS towards an important operator in clean tech R&D and education.

smart16Professor (Dr.) Sanjay Srivastava is Managing Director, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI) and Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University (MRU), India. He holds a Ph.D. in the area of Organizational Behavior from University of Delhi. Dr. Srivastava was associated with Haryana Institute of Public Administration for many years and was responsible for mentoring the Civil servants of the Cadre and Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India. He worked for 18 years with Amity University as Dean ‘Examination and Faculty of Management Studies’ & Chairman ‘Doctoral Program’. At Amity University, Dr. Srivastava led the team for setting up and running campuses at different places in India and abroad.  A Transactional Analysis practitioner, an expert of Psychometric Profiling and a trained NLP practitioner, Dr. Sanjay Srivastava has also authored six books on International Human Resource Management and Strategies for Sustainable Growth. Twenty three scholars have completed their Ph. D. work under his guidance and eight of them are pursuing their doctoral work with him.

smart16Dr. NC Wadhwa is a Haryana cadre IAS officer who retiredon 31 March 2009 as Labour Commissioner-cum-Special Secretary, Government of Haryana. In addition to his distinguished career as a bureaucrat, he has very sound academicbackground. He is gold medalist Graduate from Delhi University and gold medalist Post-Graduate from Kurukshetra University and has done his doctorate from Punjab University. During his administrative career, he has held various important assignments as Deputy Commissioner of Sirsa and Hisar Districts and Divisional Commissioner of  Rohtak, Hisar and Ambala divisions and successfully tackled law and order situations, communal and social tensions, in addition to supervising development projects in the districts. While working as Chief Administrator, HUDA, Director Town & Country Planning and MD Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC), he was instrumental in large scale urban development and industrial infrastructure in the State. He handled assignments of Director, School Education and in that capacity introducedvalue based education in the State. As Director, Medical College Rohtak and officiating Vice Chancellor, MDU, Rohtak, he handled important responsibilities and contributed in the field of technical and higher education. Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna International University, he has been instrumental in streamlining the working of theuniversity and has helped in attaining academic excellence and milestone achievements in Research & Development.​
