FLUXION - LAB Institute of Design and Fine Arts sustainability exhibition in Habitare

fluxion

The Habitare 2024 expo will feature the sustainability exhibition of the LAB University of Applied Sciences Institute of Design and Fine Arts. Section 6p2 presents, among other things, the possibilities of side streams and circular economy, as well as the reuse of surplus material.

We constantly produce surplus material in everyday life and in the field of industry. We rarely come to think about what happens to all the leftovers after you throw them away. Could the materials be used in some new way?

Fluxion -redesigning side streams visualize how something new and beautiful can be born from "waste" through the means of science and art. We encourage visitors to reconsider the consumption of materials, the concept of waste and the utilization of existing raw materials in the construction of new environments.

Different parts of the exhibition stand illustrate the journey of side streams into finished products. Join us to explore the possibilities of side streams and circular economy.

1. Invisible to visible
Six different side streams are presented through the means of art. Side stream is a material that is created through the processing of another abject or in production. By getting to know the works you will also get to know better the side stream as a concept and what our department is all about. There are surprising everyday-life materials on display, which you might not even consider as a side stream. Do you recognize the process from which the materials originate?

2. Creative exploration
See how side streams are processed to innovative new materials. Through videos you can see how coffee grounds are used to create leather or hair used to create padding. With every video you can also see a material sample that you can take a closer look and experience the material yourself.

3. Redesigning
We want to be involved in creating an era of sustainable circular economy. The products are made by students of the LAB institute of design and fine arts and are examples of how the innovative recycled materials seen in the area could be utilized. Do you recognize what material was used to make each product?

On Sunday 15 September at 3 pm a panel discussion facilitated by Susanna Björklund, a lecturer at the LAB Institute of Design and Fine Arts, will also be held on Habitare's main stage. The lecturers and students involved in the implementation of the exhibition will discuss sustainability and the Fluxion exhibition that is linked to it.
