Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing, full-time studies, Lappeenranta, 210 op
Registered nurse – an expert in health care
As a registered nurse (RN), your work in the growing health care sector will be challenging and independent. RNs are key actors delivering patient-centred, safe, effective and evidence-based health care services. You will promote and support the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. You will also make independent decisions in nursing, lead teams and perform supervisory duties. As an RN, you will work e.g. in hospitals, clinics and home care.
The studies emphasise competencies that will be needed in health care in the future. The focus is on evidence-based nursing.
The degree programme in nursing is carried out on the Lahti and Lappeenranta campuses. The Lappeenranta campus boasts strong knowledge of surgery care and emergency care and offers the perfect facilities for specialising in these areas.
The Lahti campus emphasises competencies in modern technological approaches in which smart self-care solutions promote the health and well-being of individuals and families. Smart self-care solutions include, for example, a variety of e-health services and robotic opportunities for patients and customers.
Language of instruction is English. Applicants to nursing studies in Lahti are required to have basic Finnish skills, and Finnish language studies are a part of both degree programmes.
Clinical training in authentic health care environments is an integral part of your studies on both campuses. You will study in an inspiring multicultural community and have a possibility to enhance your expertise abroad in student exchange. The education will open up a wide range of career opportunities in Finland and abroad, as you will possess a nurse's qualification in accordance with EU directives.

Koulutuksen sisältö
The first year of studies focuses on the basics of nursing, social and health care environments, customer relations, wellbeing, health promotion and functional ability.
During the second and third year, the studies consist of different nursing areas based on theoretical and clinical nursing competences. This advances clinical decision-making, guidance and counselling skills, evidence-based practice, as well as quality assurance and patient safety issues.
During the final years of the studies, students also strengthen their knowledge in leadership, management and entrepreneurship, and deepen their ethical and professional competences.
Approximately one third of the studies is completed as practical training in various health care settings. Practical training can be implemented in the private and public sectors, in projects or in the institution's own simulation environment. Practical training may also be carried out abroad as an exchange student. The student plans the exchange period with the teacher tutor.
Finnish language skills are essential during practical training in Finland. Non-native speakers are therefore required to study Finnish during their studies.
